On the way to Montenegro, we stopped at Tara river canyon rafting in Bosnia for two days. Among all the rafting providers on Tara, we selected the Rafting Center Tara.
Arrival at camp
Already on the way to the camp, we were excited. Immediately we noticed cute wooden houses on the banks of the Tara, a pleasant environment, a wonderful nature, a pleasant place for socializing, friendly employees, so we instantly felt comfortable and homely. After we arrange all formalities at the reception , we go to our wooden house, above which we are really excited.
Rafting center Drina – Tara
Rafting center Tara is the first registered rafting club in the area. They offer active tourism, organization of rafting, canyoning, excursions along the Tara and Drina, hiking, jeep safari, riding with ATV’s … All trips that they organize are based on one-day or more daily arrangements. Included in the price of the accommodation is the overnight stay and full board.
Overnight stays are offered in 90 wooden houses built in mountain style. There are 300 beds available, you can choose between a single or double bed or you can choose a house with a private bathroom.
Delicious food
In the Tara rafting center, you won’t be hungry, you will eat the traditional and local eco-food. On the menu you will find grilled lamb, ham, homemade kajmak, burek, ”uštipci”, freshly baked bread, hot sausages … It is also well taken care of vegetarians, so there is no fear of being hungry, quite the contrary.
After unpacking, we go to dinner which was excellent. Fortunately, we arrived in the camp on Saturday, which is the busiest time in the week. The local band took care for the music after the dinner. The band played until 1 am in the morning.
Rafting on river Tara
The morning is followed by an excellent traditional breakfast, sausages, fresh bread, sour milk, homemade cheese and salami … After breakfast, the experienced skipper chooses rafting equipment (helmet, life jacket and neoprene dress). With the off-road vehicle we head to Montenegro to Breštanovica, where the rafting starts. We divide into groups and we go into rafts. Skipper introduces us to rowing techniques, seating, water behavior, etc.
In three hours and 25 km long rafting, we overtook the most attractive part of the Tara canyon, descended on wild rapids, dug in the river and jumped from high rocks. In the meantime, we also made a stop where we dring some refreshing drinks and made some photos of the unique Tara. After the break there is a slightly more peaceful downhill to our campsite, just below the terrace of the restaurant, located just above the river. After active rafting, a hot shower and traditional lunch (soup, lamb with potatoes, baklava …) are served. After lunch is time for packing and leaving the campsite. We were a little bit to late to continue, so we decided to stay in the camp for another night and continue the journey next morning.
The Tara canyon is the deepest canyon in Europe, with a length of 93 km, and the bottom is in some places 1300 meters high. The Tara canyon is definitely wonderful with its blue-green shades of water.
The Rafting Center Drina – Tara is definitely recommended for those who want to explore the biggest gorge in Europe and an exceptional landscape, which extends in two national parks Sutjeska and Durmitor. We were definitely impressed by nature, the ambiance in the camp, the food, and the attitude of the employees. In any case, we believe that we have not received any kind of such hospitality anywhere in Bosnia, so one day we will definitely return.
The price of overnight stay, rafting and full board will cost you € 60.
