Brussels (Bruxelles) is the capital of Belgium and the center of the European Union. It is the center of European culture with more than 90 museums, walking trails and a place where we find excellent waffles, beers and chocolates. Here are the 5 most typical things you can not miss when spending one day in Brussels.
1. Atomium
Atomium is the symbol of Brussels, which stands on the plateau of “Heysel”. It was built for the purpose of the world exhibition in 1958. Atomium resembles a molecule, composed of 9 steel balls, which are connected to one another and to a height of 102 m. At the top there is a (expensive) restaurant, which does not offer anything special, but the lack of gourmet specialties, replaces the view on Brussels. Admission to Atomium is not cheap, as it will be necessary to deduct € 15 for adults for the entrance fee, and € 8 for children and students.
* Near the Atomium there is a park Mini Europe.
2. Manneken Pis
If you have not seen Manneken Pisa or a boy who is peeing you were not in Brussels. A lot of legends circulate about it, and my favorite one is that the boy was peeing on the cord of an explosive and this save the town house.
3. Main Market – Grand Place
The market is probably the most tourist attraction in Brussels and one of the most beautiful markets in Europe. Visit the market by the day where is a crowd of tourists and street artists, as well in the evening when the market has a special charm. The market is fantastic in the evening hours,when the town house is full of colors.
4. Waffles
During the visit to Brussels, we must try their famous waffles. For sweet lovers, the dose of sugar is guaranteed. The prices of waffles start at 1-2 eur, if you have special wishes with filling (cream, syrup, fruit, chocolate), the price rises. I deducted 6.5 euros for my berry, cream and white chocolate.
5. Breweries
Brussels is considered as the capital of beer lovers. It is hard to find so many different beers on one place anywhere in the world. During my visit to Brussels, we turned into one of the most famous breweries in Brussels, Delirium Tremens, which has more than 2400 different types of beer in its offer.
