On the Velika planina, winter has already ended, snow has already scattered, and the first signifiers of the spring – the saffrons – has already peeked from the winter blankets. The Velika planina is beautiful in all seasons, but it is definitely the most beautiful in the flowering of saffron, when the mountain is covered in a violet carpet. Saffrons peek out the ground somewhere in the middle of April, and bloom for 7-10 days.
Definitely, Velika planina is beautiful and worth seeing in all seasons, but the spring visit, when the whole mountain is wrapped in a violet carpet of saffron, is something special.
